Former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston has defended the huge wages and bonuses players receive after insisting that they deserve every penny.
Players in the last decade everywhere are now taking bigger salaries either monthly or annually in addition to the bonuses they are given when they play for their national team.
In Ghana, there has ways been an issue about the amount of money players of the Black Stars receive as bonuses after playing for the national team.
Sharing his thoughts on the matter, Laryea Kingston has said that there is no problem at all. According to him, players do not take any pension after retirement and hence whatever they take now they do deserve it.
"One thing people should understand is that football is a profession and after football there is no pension pay or ex-gratia. The footballers are working and must get their due for the work they do," he said in an interview with GhanaWeb.
The former Hearts of Oak attacker added, "It is fair for them to have whatever they are due because it is what they rely on. When it comes to money the money that is due them players in the country they deserve to take it."
After going into retirement, Laryea Kingston has received training and is now a coach with Right to Dream Academy.
