The head coach for the Ghana senior national team, CK Akonnor has received two months of his year-long unpaid wages, Communications Director of the Ghana FA Henry Asante Twum has revealed.
The gaffer was appointed as the new head coach for the Black Stars team in January 2020 to replace Coach James Kwesi Appiah.
While it was subsequently reported that Coach CK Akonnor will be receiving a monthly wage of $25,000, he has not been paid throughout the year with the Ministry of Youth and Sports explaining that the delay had been caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Today, Henry Asante Twum has disclosed that the Black Stars coach has received two months of his unpaid salary.
“CK [Akonnor] has been paid two months. He received it before Christmas and would have another two months next week [in the new year]. That’s what we’ve been told by the Sports Ministry,” the GFA Communications Director told Kessben FM.
Henry Asante Twum added, “The Ministry had hoped to clear six months of the arrears but unfortunately it seems they were overstretched hence paying the two months for the time being.”
