Brighton boss Graham Potter urges Tariq Lamptey to learn from red card

Brighton manager Graham Potter has backed Tariq Lamptey to learn from his sending off against Aston Villa on match week nine of the English Premier League.

The 20-year-old was shown the exit late on in the 2-1 win at Villa after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession for challenges on John McGinn and Jack Grealish.

Lamptey has impressed since joining the Seagulls from Chelsea in January and according to Potter, he feels disappointed the right-back missed his side's clash against Liverpool.

"He’s disappointed to miss the game, disappointed that he got the red card," he said.

“I think it is all a learning experience for him. As I’ve said before, he’s done a lot really, really well, and there are things that he can improve, and that’s normal for a player of his age and experience.

“But he has the right mentality and he’ll have to just bide his time, sit this one out and be ready for the next match."

Brighton stroke late to seal a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the Amex stadium on Saturday.
