Tony Yeboah on his successful stint at Leeds United

Former Ghana international Tony Yeboah has opened up on his successful spell at English side Leeds United during his playing career.

Yeboah joined ‎The Whites from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 1995 and in his second season at Elland Road he was voted Player of the Year.

The 53-year-old scored a total of 32 goals for Leeds United in 66 appearances and is still revered as a cult hero for the Yorkshire club due to a series of memorable goals he scored.

"Initially the trust from Leeds was not there so they loaned me for the first six months and had the option for another two years," he told GTV Sports Plus.

His volley against Liverpool and his strike versus Wimbledon in the 1995/96 season were among his most notable goals, and he was a regular feature in Goal of the Month in the Premier League.

"Any time I am in England, I am asked about my goals and I always choose the goal against Liverpool because I am a Liverpool fan so it was special to score against them," he added.

"And it was a long time that Leeds had not beaten Liverpool. I met Ian Rush, Barnes, players I had liked from a distance and said; this one I have to show something."

On his adjustment in the English league, he said, "I was fit and it didn’t take me too long to adjust to English football."
