Cancellation of 2019/20 GPL season will affect clubs – Eric Donkor

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko defender Eric Donkor has said that cancelling the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season will affect some clubs.

The GPL has been on suspension since March after the President, Nana Akufo Addo announced the cancellation of all public gatherings including sporting events.

The return of the topflight remains uncertain with opinions divided as to whether it should be continued or cancelled.

The FA is yet to make an official statement about the future of the current campaign as CAF issues deadline day of May 5, 2020 for member associations to decide.

Speaking Bryt FM, the Ashantigold guardsman said, “I heard the FIFA Medical Committee Chairman, Michel talking about the start of leagues that isn’t so good, he is right, but personally I don’t have any problem if the season is cancelled or not. What I know is to focus and do my work as footballer”

“The season have been very tough but I know Medeama, Aduana Stars and others who are on top of the table won’t be happy because it will affect them if we have to choose representatives for Africa. What I know about the law is that the team that represented the country will still represent if there is a problem or halting. So I know it won’t go well for Medeama” he told Bryt Power Sports.
